Red Eye Blues

I wait for the last call to board this late-night flight
Find a row of empty seats where I can try to hide
The runway fades into midnight black
Got a one-way ticket and I’m not coming back

Got the red eye blues flying over you
Can’t you feel my tear drops as they rain down on you
Got the red eye blues nothing I can do
Tomorrow I’ll be old news
Got the red eye blues

It’s three forty five and I’m seven miles high
I may never fall asleep with you riding on my mind
Wings carry me high into the clouds
I can’t see the stars and I can’t touch the ground

Got the red eye blues flying over you
Can’t you feel my tear drops as they rain down on you
Got the red eye blues nothing I can do
Tomorrow I’ll be old news
Got the red eye blues

In my picture of our future we were hand-in-hand
As our little children chased their shadows in the sand
Now we’re only footprints at the edge of the water line
Where one wave can erase our love without a trace

Got the red eye blues flying over you
Can’t you feel my tear drops as they rain down on you
Got the red eye blues nothing I can do
Tomorrow I’ll be old news
Got the red eye blues
……over you….
